Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Warm the milk, combine with yeast and a teaspoon of sugar, and let it sit until foamy.
  2. Mix remaining sugar, egg, melted butter, salt, and half the flour in a bowl.
  3. Knead the dough until smooth and elastic, about 8-10 minutes.
  4. Let the dough rise in a greased bowl covered with a towel for 1 to 1.5 hours.
  5. Roll out the dough into a large rectangle about 1/4-inch thick.
  6. Spread softened butter on the dough and sprinkle granulated sugar evenly.
  7. Roll the dough tightly and slice into pieces about 1 inch wide.
  8. Let the sliced snails rise again for 30 to 45 minutes.
  9. Preheat the oven to 350°F and bake the Sugar Snails for 20-25 minutes.
  10. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before serving.
