For the Dough
  • 3 cups All-Purpose Flour Gluten-free flour can be used.
  • 2 teaspoons Active Dry Yeast Or Instant Yeast.
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar Omit for a less sweet profile.
  • ¾ cup Warm Water About 110°F.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Adjust to dietary needs.
  • cup Plain Yogurt Coconut yogurt for vegan.
  • 2 tablespoons Oil or Ghee Melted vegan butter works.
For the Garlic Butter
  • 3 cloves Minced Garlic Adjust based on preference.
  • 3 tablespoons Melted Butter Substitute with olive oil.
For Garnish
  • Cilantro or Parsley Fresh herbs for garnish.

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a small bowl, combine 1 teaspoon of sugar with 2 teaspoons of active dry yeast and ¾ cup of warm water. Let sit for about 10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 3 cups of all-purpose flour and 1 teaspoon of salt. Create a well in the center, then add the foamy yeast mixture, ⅓ cup of yogurt, and 2 tablespoons of oil. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes.
  3. Shape the dough into a ball, place in a lightly oiled bowl, cover and let rise for about 1 hour or until doubled.
  4. Punch down the dough and divide into 8 portions. Roll each into an oval shape.
  5. Preheat a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Cook each naan for about 1 minute on each side until golden brown.
  6. Mix 3 tablespoons of melted butter with 3 cloves of minced garlic. Brush over the hot naan and garnish with salt and fresh cilantro or parsley.
