  • 1 tbsp cornstarch Arrowroot or flour can work in its place.
For the Cheese
  • 2 cups shredded provolone and mozzarella cheese Any melty cheese like cheddar can be a great substitute.
Seasoning
  • Kosher salt Adjust according to taste.
  • Freshly ground black pepper Mix to personal preference.

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Gather your ingredients and equipment.
  2. In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil and add the penne pasta. Cook until al dente, about 8–10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  3. In an ovenproof skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, about 5–7 minutes.
  4. Add sliced mushrooms, chopped onion, and bell pepper to the skillet. Cook for 5–6 minutes until softened.
  5. Stir in French onion soup and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for 2–3 minutes.
  6. Whisk together cold water and cornstarch until smooth. Add to the skillet, stirring and simmering until sauce thickens, about 5 minutes.
  7. Fold the drained penne into the sauce, stirring for about 2 minutes to combine.
  8. Sprinkle cheese over the pasta and bake for about 15 minutes, until cheese is melted and golden.
