Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 190°C (375°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and brown sugar on high until light and fluffy (2-3 minutes).
  3. Add the egg or flax mixture and vanilla extract, mix on medium speed until blended (about 1 minute).
  4. Gradually add all-purpose flour and salt, mixing on low until a soft dough forms.
  5. Roll dough into 1-inch balls and space them 1½ inches apart on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Press two indents into each ball to form a heart shape for the filling.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
  8. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before filling with jam.
