- Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cream together ¾ cup of softened butter and ½ cup of lightly packed brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add 1 egg (or flaxseed mixture) and ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract, and mix until smooth.
- Gradually add 1½ cups of flour and ¼ teaspoon of salt, stirring gently until a soft dough forms.
- Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place on the prepared baking sheet.
- Gently press two indents into each dough ball to shape them into hearts.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until edges are lightly golden and centers remain pale.
- Remove from the oven and cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes.
- Once cooled, fill the indents with ¼ cup of your favorite jam.
