Ingredients

For the Tofu
  • 1 block Firm Tofu Use firm or extra-firm tofu for the best texture and structure.
For the Marinade
  • 1 cup Soy Sauce or Tamari Swap with tamari for gluten-free.
  • 1 tablespoon Chili Powder Adjust based on your spice tolerance.
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked Paprika Regular paprika works for a milder taste.
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder Can substitute with fresh minced garlic.
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame Oil Optional; omit if allergic.
  • 2 tablespoons Lemon Juice or Lime Can use lime juice for a refreshing twist.

Equipment

  • baking sheet
  • medium-sized bowl
  • Heavy skillet or weight

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Begin by pressing the firm tofu to remove excess moisture. Wrap the tofu block in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy skillet or weight on top for 20 minutes.
  2. Cut the tofu into 1-inch cubes, ensuring even pieces for uniform cooking.
  3. In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together soy sauce, chili powder, smoked paprika, garlic powder, sesame oil, and lemon juice until well blended.
  4. Add the cubed tofu to the marinade, tossing gently to ensure each piece is thoroughly coated. Allow it to marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  6. Once the oven is ready, spread the marinated tofu cubes onto the baking sheet in a single layer and roast for 25 to 30 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  7. After roasting, let the tofu rest for 5 minutes. Garnish with a squeeze of fresh lemon or a drizzle of sesame oil before serving.
