Step-by-Step Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together ¼ cup of extra virgin olive oil, ¼ cup of low-sodium soy sauce, ¼ cup of freshly squeezed lime juice, 4 minced garlic cloves, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, and ½ teaspoon of cumin powder until well combined.
- Place the flank steak in a resealable bag or a shallow dish, and pour the prepared marinade over the top. Seal the bag tightly or cover the dish, then refrigerate for at least 1 hour, ideally overnight.
- About 20 minutes before cooking, preheat your grill to high heat, aiming for around 450°F (232°C). Oil the grates to prevent sticking.
- Once the grill is heated, place the marinated flank steak on the grates. Grill for 5-7 minutes on one side until a rich, dark crust forms. Flip and grill for another 5-7 minutes for medium-rare doneness.
- Remove the flank steak from the grill and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing thinly against the grain.

Notes
For a truly tender steak, marinate overnight and always use a meat thermometer to avoid overcooking.
