Ingredients

For the Marinade
  • 1 lb Flank Steak Choose a well-marbled cut
  • ¼ cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil Can be swapped with canola oil
  • ¼ cup Low-Sodium Soy Sauce Tamari works for gluten-free
  • 4 cloves Garlic, minced Adjust to taste for milder flavor
  • ¼ cup Lime Juice Lemon juice is a nice alternative
  • 2 tbsp Brown Sugar Honey or maple syrup can substitute
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper
  • ½ tsp Cumin Powder Omit if you prefer a simpler taste
  • to taste Fresh Cilantro, optional Use as a garnish

Equipment

  • grill
  • Medium bowl
  • resealable bag
  • Meat Thermometer

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together ¼ cup of extra virgin olive oil, ¼ cup of low-sodium soy sauce, ¼ cup of freshly squeezed lime juice, 4 minced garlic cloves, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, and ½ teaspoon of cumin powder until well combined.
  2. Place the flank steak in a resealable bag or a shallow dish, and pour the prepared marinade over the top. Seal the bag tightly or cover the dish, then refrigerate for at least 1 hour, ideally overnight.
  3. About 20 minutes before cooking, preheat your grill to high heat, aiming for around 450°F (232°C). Oil the grates to prevent sticking.
  4. Once the grill is heated, place the marinated flank steak on the grates. Grill for 5-7 minutes on one side until a rich, dark crust forms. Flip and grill for another 5-7 minutes for medium-rare doneness.
  5. Remove the flank steak from the grill and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing thinly against the grain.
