Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-Purpose Flour Can be substituted with gluten-free flour blend.
  • 1 tbsp Sugar Can be omitted for a less sweet dough.
  • 1 tsp Salt Do not omit for best flavor.
  • 1 tbsp Active Dry Yeast Ensure it's fresh for best rise.
  • 1 cup Warm Water 105-115°F is ideal.
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil Extra can be used for greasing.
For the Toppings
  • 1 lb Italian Sausage For vegetarian option, use roasted vegetables.
  • 1 medium Red Onion Shallots can be used as a substitute.
  • 2 cloves Garlic Fresh minced preferred.
  • 1 cup Feta Cheese Goat cheese can be a substitute.
  • 2 tbsp Honey Maple syrup for a vegan alternative.
  • 1/4 cup Fresh Basil Leaves Dried basil can be used but use less.
  • 1/2 tsp Red Pepper Flakes Omit for a milder flavor.
  • Salt and Black Pepper to taste Freshly ground preferred.

Method
 

Dough Preparation
  1. Dissolve sugar and active dry yeast in warm water. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Mix in olive oil, flour, and salt until combined to form a dough.
  3. Knead on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Shape dough into a ball and place in a greased bowl. Cover and let rise for 1 to 1.5 hours.
Baking Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 450°F. Place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside while preheating.
  2. Cook the sausage in a skillet until browned. Add red onion and cook until softened.
  3. Shape risen dough into 12-inch circles and transfer to a baking sheet or stone.
  4. Brush crust with olive oil, add sausage mixture, crumble feta on top.
  5. Bake for 12-15 minutes until the crust is golden.
  6. Drizzle honey over the pizza, sprinkle with basil and red pepper flakes.
