Ingredients

For the Base
  • 2 cups Spinach Provides essential vitamins and fiber; switch with kale for a different flavor profile.
  • 1 cup Coconut Water Acts as a hydrating base with a hint of sweetness; substitute with plain water or unsweetened almond milk.
  • 1 medium Frozen Banana Adds natural sweetness and creaminess; use a ripe fresh banana if frozen isn’t available.
For the Flavor
  • 1 medium Green Apple Offers a tart flavor while masking spinach’s earthiness; any sweet apple variety can be used.
  • 1 medium Cucumber Adds refreshing moisture; zucchini can be an alternative for a similar texture.
  • 1 whole Lemon Enhances the overall flavor; ensure to peel it completely to avoid bitterness.
  • 1 inch Fresh Ginger Adds warmth and spice; ground ginger can be used but won't provide the same vibrancy as fresh.
Optional Add-Ins
  • 1 tablespoon Chia Seeds Can be added for thickening; these also boost fiber content.
  • 1 tablespoon Raw Honey or Agave Syrup For additional sweetness if the fruits are not ripe enough; keep it vegan by choosing agave.

Equipment

  • blender

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Begin by washing the spinach leaves thoroughly to remove any dirt. Chop the green apple, cucumber, and fresh ginger into small pieces for easier blending. Keep the skin on the apple for added nutrients, and make sure to peel the lemon to eliminate any bitterness.
  2. In your blender, start with the spinach as the base, then pour in the coconut water for hydration and sweetness. Add the frozen banana followed by the chopped green apple, cucumber, and ginger pieces.
  3. Secure the lid on your blender and set it to high speed. Blend the mixture for about 60 seconds, checking for a creamy and lump-free consistency.
  4. After blending, press down the mixture with a spatula if needed, and check the thickness of your smoothie. If it feels too thick, add a splash of water until you achieve your desired texture.
  5. Once you have the perfect consistency, pour the Green Detox Smoothie into your favorite glasses. Garnish with a slice of lemon on the rim or a sprinkle of chia seeds on top.
