Bread and Cheese
  • 4 slices Sourdough Bread can swap with ciabatta
  • 8 ounces Fresh Mozzarella Cheese can swap with provolone or fontina
Fresh Produce
  • 1 large Ripe Tomato preferably cherry or grape tomatoes
  • 10 leaves Fresh Basil Leaves dried basil can be used if needed
Additional Ingredients
  • 2 tablespoons Pesto optional, but recommended
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted Butter can substitute with olive oil
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Pepper
  • to taste Balsamic Glaze optional

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Spread softened unsalted butter on one side of each slice of sourdough bread.
  2. On the unbuttered side of two slices, layer fresh mozzarella cheese, ripe tomato slices, and basil leaves. Drizzle with pesto and season with salt and pepper.
  3. Place the remaining slices of sourdough buttered-side-up over the layers to complete the sandwiches.
  4. Preheat a skillet over medium heat for about 2 minutes.
  5. Cook the sandwiches for 3-4 minutes until the bottom is golden brown and crispy before flipping.
  6. Flip the sandwiches gently and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes.
  7. Remove sandwiches from the skillet, drizzle with balsamic glaze if desired, slice in half, and serve immediately.
