Preparation Steps
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) if baking chocolate cake from scratch. Bake for 30-40 minutes and cool before slicing.
- Wash and pit fresh cherries or drain canned cherries. Slice fresh cherries in half for the trifle.
- In a chilled mixing bowl, whip 1 cup of heavy cream until soft peaks form. Optionally add powdered sugar.
- In a trifle dish, layer chocolate cake, followed by cherries and whipped cream. Repeat until ingredients are used.
- Finish with a layer of whipped cream and sprinkle chocolate shavings on top.
- Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
